Portici d'Artista

The redevelopment of the shutters on via Sacchi through mural art interventions by young artists in training from the Accademia Albertina di Belle Arti di Torino, on the themes of memory, culture, and inclusion, step by step. The project follows the masterplan developed by the Department of Architecture and Design (DAD) at the Polytechnic of Turin as a Public Engagement initiative in collaboration with Rilanciamo via Sacchi. It has been approved by the Public Art Commission, the City of Turin, and the Superintendency, with support from District 1 – City of Turin. Portici d’Artista has brought, in two years, 23 public artworks to the street, covering almost 15% of the shutters along the historic kilometer of arcades. A participatory process involving young artists, shopkeepers, property owners, citizens, and curators for the enhancement and rediscovery of via Sacchi within the Urban Art Plan of Turin. The stimulus for a shared process of cultural, physical, social, and economic regeneration of the public space, from the street fronts to Borgo San Secondo.

A-Place — “Linking places through networked artistic practices” — is a project co-funded by the Creative Europe programme (2019-2023), whose aim has been to implement creative activities embedded in the community to foster a sense of place and belonging in our multicultural, and interconnected societies.

A-Place Mapping is part of the activities that are being carried out by the A-Place project. The aim of the project is to foster bonds between people and the places they live in, with activities which combine art, education and community-based practices.
Public spaces can be transformed through the combined work of creative individuals, groups and communities. Artistic interventions reveal the hidden meanings and memories of spaces, and unfold the potential of places.

The A-Space Map shares the places created and transformed.
