L’industria del cinema

The narration of urban space can be expressed through various artistic practices. It is necessary to identify the most suitable style for a dynamic space such as the metropolitan area of Turin: a city that was a protagonist in the industrial revolution and technological changes, which have generated both wealth and urban decay.

The panel dedicated to the film industry depicts:

a reference to Dario Argento’s Profondo Rosso filmed in Turin (a bloody knife and a red hand); the Lumière brothers’ train, the first short film made with a movie camera; the actors’ dressing room, one of the most emotionally charged and tense places on a film set; the actors’ performance, represented by two individuals dancing in space; a projector, symbol of the film industry; the clapperboard, which signals the start of the take; the movement of the car, highlighting the peculiar ability of the film industry, to capture and divide real movement into individual fragments; and lights, which play a fundamental role in communicating a given shot.
